Role
Creative director, Designer

The Materiality Lab is a visual research project that explores the realm of materials and their visual features. It uses the Material Archiv as a source for the data. Our goal was to use the visual appearance of materials as a way to exploring a collection. We used a machine-learning algorithm to classify the features of the pictures of different materials, to sort them by visual similarity. Based on this data, we arranged the materials in a visually navigatable grid using the RasterFairy algorithm.
