Revolution was the central topic of the 2016 Design Days festival in Paris. For this occasion, the concept was tackled from the particular angle of astronomy and interpreted in reference to the movement of a planet around the Sun.

The Grand Observatory of Paris calculated the revolution (speed, angle, rotation of the axis, visibility from Earth, etc.) of the eight planets of our solar system. The collected data was visualised relative to each other for the duration of a week, the timeframe of the festival itself. The graphics of these detailed observations and precise planet locations were displayed to passersby on eight large windows at the Galeries Lafayette.

This is an interactive sketch that visualizes the planetary orbits relative to each other. The yellow circle represents the active planet. While this planet revolves once around the sun, planets that are closer to the sun revolve several times around the center. The further away the planets are from the Sun, the slower they rotate.
